Crimea Invasion

3 March 2014

Have you ever considered how entirely unexpectedly things emerge in life – especially when we think about world news?

Who would have guessed at the beginning of last weekend that we would wake up on Monday morning not simply to another week of going to work, but to the dramatic news that a major Russian invasion had taken place into Ukraine?

Ukraine

At least 6,000 Russian troops had stormed Belbek airport in Crimea — a Russian area of Ukraine — leaving the newly-elected Kiev government powerless to defend itself. Could this perhaps have been some stray whim of the Russian President?

No certainly not! It later emerged that Vladimir Putin had beforehand obtained full permission from the upper house of the Russian Parliament to justify the takeover.

So just think this move was the result of a determined and thought-out plan against a Nation on the continent of Europe itself; a plan of which no other Nation had any knowledge whatsoever. We are left to ponder what this will mean to us individually in the longer term — higher gas prices, shortage of flour — we can only await the outcomes.

Warnings about increasing uncertainty in world affairs have been highlighted by the Christadelphians in Stafford over many years based on their reading of the Bible. Just see what Jesus Christ said of a future time:

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 "men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. 27 "Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 "Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

Luke 21:25-28

So although others did not know what was in Mr Putin’s mind, is it possible that there is a God who has a Plan in mind for this world — Who is so powerful as to be able to implement it at the right time? A Plan which will solve all of the increasing problems and uncertainty daily coming on us.

Unlike Mr Putin’s plans, God does tell any who will hear so that they can be prepared:

"Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets."

Amos 3:7

The perplexing drama in Ukraine continues. Mr Putin has assembled, without any prior warning, some 30,000 troops along the borders, having already annexed Crimea.

Much diplomatic effort in talks are taking place with no obvious progress being made. It is a time of increasing fear and uncertainty for the people of Ukraine and for us all, as the situation could easily accelerate.

Warnings about increasing uncertainty and the development of a crisis in human affairs have been highlighted by the Christadelphians in Stafford and in many other regions of the world.

On what basis could such warnings be issued?

This understanding of the future is based solely on the reading of the Bible. Read again, for example, what Jesus Christ said of a future time in the quotation from Luke 21 above.

The warning from Jesus is that all are to be ready for such events. Unlike Mr Putin’s plans with no warning whatsoever given, God does tell any who will hear so that they can be prepared:

"Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets."

Amos 3:7

Issues like this and how the simple picture of the Bible fits to events in the world were dealt with in the special presentation Ukraine Crisis in God’s Strategic Plan on 8 April. You can see the video of the presentation on our Video Gallery page.
